Thoughts of Billy
Prayers for Billy
Hi Batch mates,
The family and friends of our very dear batch mate, Billy Pabellano, are requesting for your prayers. Billy is now fighting for his life at the Lucena Doctors' Hospital. Please pray for our dear Billy.
Elsie
Surely TLC,
I'm with Billy in prayers. I'll also be at the church tonight and would ask the congregation to intercede on Billy's behalf.
Boyet (Juancho Alvarez)
My Refuge and My Fortress
91:1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”
3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. 5 You will not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness, nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.
7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only look with your eyes and see the recompense of the wicked.
I got a call from Nelia this morning (who's now on her way to L.A), She was asking if we could check how Billy was doing coz apparently, she got a text from Billy's wife, Joy..
I asked Wilson to check the Lucena hospitals.
Got calls from Nelia and Wilson again almost at the same time and they both verified that Billy is in ICU of Lucena Doctors', fighting for his life.He had a heart attack yesterday morning due to high BP.
I can't bring myself to say what Nelia told me next (I was actually shaking when Nelia and I were talking) but you all deserve to know. He's now clinically dead and only a miracle could save him. He needs all our prayers.
I've texted all batchmates who are in my phonebook and they were all shocked but promised they will pray for our dear Billy.
Oday is right, at our age, we deserve to see each other more often. My husband and kids were really amazed at how our batchmates care for one another.Take care of yourselves,
OUR DEAR BILLY DIED LAST NIGHT ACCORDING TO HIS SON GLENN WHO POSTED THE NEWS ON BILLY'S WALL ON FB...

I am very very sorry to hear this. My prayers are with Billy and his family.
It brings to fore the need for all of us to con net while we still can. Life is too short.
Hope all of you are keeping well.
Dear All,
I cannot find the words to say in this situation. It was so shocking and I just cannot concentrate in whatever I’m doing right now. Please pray that his wife and son will have the strength to go through this.
And please let us all take care of ourselves – high BP is one of the most undiagnosed esp. in the Phils.
Leleth (Carmelita Andal-Arriola)
My prayers are with Billy & his family, may the Lord grant them enough strenght to get through this.

"I guess it's those 4 long years that you have been together that it has practically forged a relationship that we did not even define. Even some of them were not really that close to you, the mere fact that u shared lots of common things make it meaningful and eventually endearing when you meet again along the way. "

Dear Batchmate,
Though I dont know much about Billy, nakakalungkot na din na ang isang ka-batch na tulad niya ay mawalay sa atin.
I symphatize with you batchmates and most of all to his bereaved family. May he rest in peace and hoping and praying that he dwell
in the presence of the Lord now and forever.

Mga Ka-batch and Classmates of IV-MA:
Nakakalungkot.
I will alway remember Billy, isang palangiti, nakasalamin.Pagkaminsan aalisin niya iyong salamin at papahiran dahil sa pawis o sa dumi sa
salamin.Palangiti, labas ang ngipin.Palaging may kabulungan dahil may sikretong pinag-uusapan.Mapagmahal sa mga minahal niya.Maginoong
katunggali at marangal.
Muli,paalam sayo kaibigan.

Indeed it is a very sad news for all of us who have for one time or another had the chance to know Billy. We were never in the same section but we greeted each other occasionally. He has always been kind to me, I'm sure he is kind to everyone.
Let's take better care of ourselves.
James Manalad
Ma’am Elsie, Please extend my deepest symphaty to the family of Billy Pabellano. I was sadden with this bad news. I remembered Billy, Marlon, Erlito and I in front every morning during National Anthem"Bayang Magiliw", because we were the smallest students in the class. Billy founded the Chess Club in QPHS'76. I used to played chess with him, and he bit me most of the time. Billy was a nice person and a good friend.
Always, Tony Adal, Jr. QPHS'76
We will treasure all the fond memories we shared with you. I guess it's not goodbye, but see you later. You are in a better place right now... a place where eternal happiness is found. You will be missed terribly... your warm smile and loving spirit that you freely gave to all of us around you. Your friendship will remain a legacy in our hearts forever.
It's been a privilege knowing someone like you...
We love you, BILLY! May you rest in peace in the hands of our Creator. Babes Narsolis
Now I remember, mahilig din siyang maglaro ng chess. I acknowledged na isa siya sa crush ng kampus - my girl classmates- lots of them were always asking me to send those interview notes to him. Yuon bang my questions such as "What is crush? Define LOVE, etc,..". Perhaps one of the reason na nakilala ko siya, I acted as a part time messenger/postman to him. While in 4th year, I used to find him infront of my grandma's house sa Mobil station sa tabi ng QPHS, at tila tumatambay. Kaya tanong ko, bakit nagagawi ka dito?? Hindi ako sinasagot, nangingiti lang siya. One time it was late in the evening 9:00 PM (late na ang 9pm noon sa Iyam) ay pumara siya ng jeep, pauwi na marahil at isinakay din ang bisekletang dala dala niya!!
Malungkot ako sa pangyayari dahil si Billy is not a mere nodding acquaintance. We also share some moments of kuwentuhang "sa wala lang".
Let me go for now while i reflect on this moment of sadness.
From Juancho Alvarez
Batch mates, please convey my deepest sympathy to Joy and Glenn and the rest of Billy's family.
After a very long silence, I decided to share my thoughts with you and Billy's family as well. I really don't want to read e-mails because until now hindi ko pa rin matanggap that Billy is gone. When Nelia informed me of Billy's state at the hospital, I couldn't say a word. I thought it was just a mild stroke or something lighter. When she told me that Billy is brain dead, hindi na ako nakapagsalita. I was stoned for a moment. I was very upset - upset at myself dahil I promised Billy that we are going to hang out when I come home. I was there last July but never had the chance to even talk to Billy (my roaming cell phone was misplaced - that is where all my contacts in the Philippines are stored) . With our humanitarian mission and appointments, wala talagang time. I should have tried every effort to contact him, but never did, that is why I am so upset with myself. The last time we hang out was at the Antigua, where we once again recall our happy moments during high school years. We call each other BFB (Best Friend Billy and Best Friend Boy). Let me share with you some thoughts about BFB.
It was in 1972 (some 38 years ago) when I first met BFB during our PE class at the small grandstand. AC siya at NA naman ako. Billy and Nelia are two of the closest people in my heart in high school. I can't afford to buy snacks at the canteen but BFB will always take me and pay for my snack. A lot times, we will go to the bakery outside and sometimes sa tindahan ni Yama. Sometimes on weekends, we will watch movies (again at Billy's expense). But the most memorable one for me was when he took me to Antigua Rest. Isang batang taga barrio, who cannot even afford to buy snacks is having a meal and drinks at the Antigua (during that time - was the most expensive and well known restaurant in Lucena). Kaya naman when given the chance na magkikita kami, we always go to Antigua kahit medyo luma na just to reminisce the good memories of the past. Si BFB din ang kasama ko when I first visited a friend at their house somewhere in Pantoc (if my memory serves me right). Every night na ihahatid ko si special friend, BFB will always come with me and give me support. After high school, I went to Manila and work. Somehow BFB found the way to find my place of work. After work on a Saturday night, we spend quality time at his dorm near Adamson U. Have a little drink and talk until the wee hours in the morning. During my break time, at wala siyang klase, (between 2 - 5 pm we would hang out at LUISA's on Avenida just to listen to live music and have good food. I was just reciprocating all the good things he has done to me then. From the late 70's we lost communications, I left in 1984 to work in the middle east and in March 1988 I joined my wife in New York. It was in 1996 when I saw BFB again. Didn't had the chance to spend quality time, but it was good seeing him after 18 years. Since then we were communicating through e-mails. And this will be my good time memories of my BFB. WHEREVER YOU ARE BILLY, BOY WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER AND TREASURE OUR GOOD TIMES TOGETHER. MAY YOUR SOUL REST IN PEACE.
Love and Prayers,
BFB
Lito D. Pernia
Lito P,
I immediately thought about you when I heard about Billy’s death last week. I am aware about your closeness and being BFBs, I could only imagine the profound sorrow that you feel right now. Please don’t be upset with yourself, nobody knew what would happen, everybody who knew him are still in shock.
Thanks for sharing with us your good memories of Billy. I remember him as being mild-mannered, a true gentleman – that is why girls liked him.

HI Elsie,
Nakakalungkot namang malaman na wala na si Billie, katulad ng iba i never had the chance to be his classmate i dont know him personally, but sometime back in March he sent me a message and he even ask me if i was going to be at the reunion next year :below is the conversation we had:
|
hi, tess! hope you still remember me. :D (billie)
of course, back in high school, it's just that i couldnt make it in the past gatherings... but this time i will be there to see all of you....
|
(me)

If you have seen the photos, you'll notice the happy faces. The gatherings were well attended and the 3 day-celebration/bonding were not enough. So, merong small gatherings just like what you did there. Gee, you missed a lot... Next year (35th), try to attend. I mean, be there. hehehe

you know i will not miss the gathering next year so i will see you there

see you next year :D God bless... (Billie)

I wish i continue sending him messages ......please extend my sincerest sympathy and condolences to his wife and son....
Tess C. Yap, CPC
Boy, very endearing indeed...he has told me a few of your escapades lalo na yung paghahatid...treasured talaga nya yung friendship nyo pero wala syang nabanggit na pinalilibre ka nya..., sabi nya ikaw yung nagpapalibre sa kanya sa manila....but his untimely demise e parang nangyari sa amin ni sato....di kami nagkita for some reason, then a month after we came back...ganon din. We all share the feeling but it is really harder on your part, as BFB.
Elsie...text me...tawagan ko kayo. i guess i'll be done by that time...
Yesterday, a friend commented on my posting about Billy's passing...and he asked me kung saan ko classmate...when i told him sa high school, he commented, "Bakit yung mga malalalim nating kaibigan e yung mga high school friends natin?" I can't think of any reason but to assumed that the almost 4 years that we have known each other thou not necessarily that close have forge an undefined relationship...only to cherish them after years of absence, in a setting like reunions.
So long Billy....
From Rey Solano
You are right Pastor. In Manila, it was turn naman, pero noong high school siya halos ang naglilibre ng snacks ko during recess time, lalo na noong thrid year tayo at fourth year, where my family experienced too much hardship - financially. Tuesday pa lang wala na akong pang-recess, and that's where BFB comes in. Kapag yayaan na ng kainan, di ako makasama, and he will say - palibre kita. Kaya naman noong nag-tatrabaho na ako sa chinese restaurant - I still remember - binisita mo rin ako doon one time, every time we go out, ako naman ang taya. We just spoke last June at usapan nga namin, magkikita kami. His last parting words were - "I am just a phone call away".
Just had a short talk with Leleth to air out my frustration and sadness over Billy's untimely demise. Medyo lumuwag naman ang dibdib ko after a brief chat with Leleth - thank you Leth for listening to me. I will miss him and our Antigua time together.

Hello Tony,
Thank you for sharing this beautiful experiences you had with Billy in high school. I'll talk about it when we go to his wake tomorrow. I've asked everyone available to be there tomorrow. It's really sad that he's gone. Although I've known him since high school, tt was only few years back that we really got to know Billy. He's such a caring, intelligent, hard working person. It's a pity we didn't have longer years to know him better.
Again, thank you for seeing me when I was there and for the book you gave my son, Ilan.
Always take care,
Elsie
Pls, extend our deep sympathy to Joy, Glenn and family. They are in our prayers.
Vilma Zoleta and family
To dear batchmates who will be at Billy's wake tomorrow, please convey my deepest sympathy to Joy and Glenn, and the rest of Billy's family on their loss. Billy was a classmate all four years of high school. He was one of the likeable classmates, kind, very down-to-earth and unassuming, reserved yet joyful, silent but was deeply involved. It was really great to have seen him in 2006 during our 30th high school reunion, still with his gentle ways and the smile (which is planted in my failing memory) that was branded BILLY. He will be missed.

As well, for all of us, I echo the message of Doc Steve.
Sincerely,
ruth lascano-leano (from zanzibar)
Tama ka Ruth, I likewise echo the message of Doc Steve! Steve has vividly described Billy (my idol) the way I knew him during our high school days because isa siyang classmate at kaibigan na matinik, talagang matinik! I've learned more of (funny) Billy during the last reunion. In one overnight affair sa bahay nina Lelen/Rey sa Laguna, Pastor Rey even mentioned to him and I quote, "OK ka pala, pare or Game ka pala, pare," unquote.
Quoting Doc Steve, "Palaging may kabulungan dahil may sikretong pinag-uusapan.Mapagmahal sa mga minahal niya. Maginoong katunggali at marangal. Matinik ika nga." This is best described Billy as far as I knew him since. I learned more of him during the last reunion. It is nice to be with him.
To Billy (my idol), may you rest in peace. And to your wife and son as well as family and friends may you all find peace with the Lord! I or we the batch of 76 will surely missed you!
To all friends, classmates and batchmates, take care all of you. Health is really wealth!
He is US
There is something about the death of a high school classmate that stuns every other person in the same batch. Even in the seemingly faceless, emotionless medium that is the internet, one can feel the sense of palpable loss that runs across miles, connecting across the globe all those who shared milestone moments in 1976.
As each one of us passes through life, without a formal goodbye, we are reminded of the things we missed, have been missing, will be missing.
And thus, Lito P. writes about the opportunities to hang out with Billy that he had missed. Some of us talked about what we have been missing in his absence. And we know we will all be missing Billy in the next reunion. Sorely.
And yet, in this loss, we also discover new things. Pastor Rey talked about the discovery of Billy’s generosity towards his BFB, both materially and in spirit, i.e. telling the story of Boy’s generosity instead.
We all discover or re-discover the part of Billy that we did not know about or never talked about. Leleth salutes his gentle manner and I am sure the other ladies will heartily agree. I do.
Nel, like a lot of us, could still be in shock, not knowing how to come to terms with losing somebody who is so much part of us.
For “all the girls he loved before” and all the boys who aspired to be like him (paging Tammy, Boyet), Billy will always be the one who knew how to treat a lady and make her feel special. It was a rare quality from teenage boys then, as it is now.
We remember him well, how he is, what he did: intelligent, gentle, kind. Malinis, maayos. Areglado. (Hindi halata.)
In remembering, we discover parts of ourselves that have been with Billy all along.
This is why we grieve.
Billy is gone. And with him goes the memories of us that he carried with him throughout his life
As we say goodbye to Billy, we also say goodbye to that part of us that he carries with him.
It has been, and will continue to be true as each of us say goodbye. And with each passing life, may we all in Batch 76 remain together in celebrating the gift of our every moment together.
Farewell, Billy. And THANK YOU. May you rest in the knowledge that you have touched the lives of those in QPHS Batch 1976.
A special memory
In high school, Billy and I had a quiet intimacy unique to platonic friends who shared the same curiosity about how some things worked. One of those things was telepathy. We both wondered how telepathy really felt and wanted to know if we can have a conversation with it. So, one day we agreed we would think of each other at some odd time in the night, and have a conversation. We synchronized our watches and went on our usual separate ways, with our own daily routines.
At the day and time appointed, I started thinking of him, and only of him, as we have agreed. It was difficult to concentrate at first, trying to knock out the distractions of the night. While we lived in a secluded, fairly quiet place, I still had to shut out the sounds of the crickets and the gecko that lived in my grandfather’s room. And then, it happened.
My mind cleared and in, he came. The voice of Billy was in my head. “Hello, Oday”. Oh, how exciting. He was physically on the other side of the city. At least two jeepney rides away! And yet, he is here, with me.
I sent a thought back, “Hello Billy”.
It was an exhilarating feeling, that point of human connection, unaided by technology and powered only by one’s own mind.
It was fleeting, but we both knew it worked. Scared or excited, we quickly lost telepathic connection but were both wiser in experiencing it.
I couldn’t wait to see him the following morning to check out how it was from his end. We, wannabe scientists, shared an experiment. And it worked.
I will always remember him for that.
It is an odd thought and yet, who knows. For those he loved and who will miss him, maybe Billy has left that possibility of reaching him still. All you have to do is empty your thoughts, and think of him. Talk to him and you will hear him. From wherever you are.
And maybe it is true for all of those we truly loved and have passed. All we need to do is think of them fully. And they will come to us.
And maybe that is why I am sharing this one story I haven’t shared with anyone, 35 years later.
Maybe.
One never truly knows the whys and hows of things. Just the way they feel.
